Serge Gnabry has been unveiled as a Werder Bremen player and confirmed that he signed for the German team as part of his development.

Everyone knew that the main reason why the 21-year-old would sign for Werder after Arsenal apparently wanted to offer him a new contract was because he had more chance of getting regular first team football.

As promising as he is and as fantastic as he was at the Rio Olympics, it would be hard for him to fight his way through the ranks at Arsenal in order to start. Not only that, but even after he’d got that coveted starting position, there would be no guarantees that he would hold onto it.

During his first press conference with Werder, Gnabry said that he wanted to develop and get game time at the German club. He also revealed that Ozil and Mertesacker still speak very highly of their former team, which is nice to hear.

“I look forward to my time at Bremen,” the winger said.

“It was important for me to come to a club that could show me the perspective to gain match practice. Those responsible in Bremen worked very hard to get me. I am sure that we can do a lot here.”

The deal is permanent so there’s no going back. Hopefully, he’s made the right decision.
