Olivier Giroud has spoken about the bitter disappointment of losing in the Euro 2016 final and his desire to move on from it.

The striker put in a good display at the Euros in France and everyone tipped the hosts to win the whole tournament. Oli was playing well, Antoine Griezmann was on fire, Paul Pogba showed up. It was great.

However, in a cruel ‘twist of fate’, as the 29-year-old puts it, Portugal won the final 1-0, crushing the dreams of the thousands of France fans watching in the Stade de France.

“It was hard to digest,” Giroud said, reports RMC Sport.

“After, I wanted to quickly move on to not stay on this big disappointment. I feel they have really given everything to the end. I cracked a little and it will always remain a small scar. The mark is indelible. We said we missed something great but not really too many regrets. It came on a twist of fate.”

France arguably deserved to win but that’s not much consolation to the France national team. There’s always the World Cup in two years but winning the European trophy on home soil would have been a dream come true for most.

Hopefully, Giroud has moved on from the loss and it’ll just make him hungrier for success with Arsenal.

The striker is still not fully fit after his involvement in Euro 2016 but he has been chosen to play for France during the interlul, which is odd. He had better return to north London in one piece!
