Galatasaray are the latest club to reportedly pull out of signing Mathieu Debuchy.

The Turkish giants have chosen to sign Trabzonspor defender Cavanda instead reportedly because of his better level of match fitness and his cost.

Gala aren’t the first team to pull out of signing the right-back. Bordeaux were apparently also interested in signing him long-term not long ago after he spent the second half of last season there.

Olympiakos and West Ham have also been linked but only vaguely.

However, due to his wage demands, the deal was called off.

We can only assume that this was for a similar reason because Gala recently confirmed that they had been offered to the Turkish club by his agent.

“Mathieu Debuchy was offered to Galatasaray through his agent on a loan deal,” Levent Nazifoglu, Gala’s sporting director confirmed.

A loan move. Therefore, there was no substantial transfer fee but we would probably have wanted them to pay a very sizable junk of his wages, if not 100% of them.

Debuchy currently earns a reported £70,000 a week with Arsenal, which, considering his age (30), the fact that he’s hardly fit and how off the pace he’s been recently, is a big lump. Even though Gala are known for paying the most wages in the Turkish League, it would still be an unwanted expense.

Back to the drawing board I guess.
