As prompted by the Arsenal Ladies twitter and the hashtag #7favpalyers, here are the my seven favourite Arsenal Ladies players and why:

Gemma Davison

The 29 years old winger plays for Chelsea Ladies those days and was the first player I really admired at the club when I started to be a regular back in 2004/05. I really enjoyed watching her beat players in one on one situations on the wing, taking on defenders and crossing for our forwards to put the ball in the back of the net.

One of the youngster who was up and coming in my early days, she played a very important part in the 2006/07 season as a 19 years old, when we won 6 trophies and went unbeaten with 42 wins and two draws that season. She quickly moved to Chelsea and Birmingham a couple of seasons later as she was not getting many games due to the high level of competition.

Kelly Smith

An exceptional set of skills for a player who could do everything you want from an attacking perspective. Pires, Zidane and Henry mixed together at her best.

Rebecca Anderson

The 22 years old defensive midfielder currently plays for London Bees in the FA WSL 2 and was at the Arsenal Academy playing a couple of friendlies with the first team before moving on to Coventry. A very tidy player who reads the game well and play the simple passes when needed.

Kirsty Linnett

The 23 years old centre forward plays for Birmingham City Ladies and signed for the club from the Arsenal Academy. ACL injuries prevented her from getting first team opportunities, while she excelled with the reserve team. She moved on to Birmingham to get first team football and has developed well with the Blues.

Jennifer Beattie

The 25 years old plays nowadays for Manchester City Women after spending a couple of season at Montpellier HSC in France. The only Arsenal player I know who could play in position 1 to 11. I saw her play number 2 to 11 with Arsenal and she played games as a goalie for Herts Uni. As good as a goaslcoring centre forward as a centre or a defensive midfielder.

Ciara Grant

The Irish midfielder who moved to centre back in the 2006/07 was probably one of the most underrated players at the club and her contribution during the Invincible season should not be underestimated. Alongside Anita Asante, and in front of Emma Byrne, she anchored the Arsenal defence superbly.

If you want to learn more about Ciara, she is part of our ebook Arsenal greatest number 7’s.

Note on the tweet below, there are only six players named because I couldn’t even manage to count to seven…. oops
