Hold the press, could Arsenal finally have some good news regarding one of their injured players?

Arsene Wenger recently revealed that Danny Welbeck’s recovery was going well and scans had shown ‘very good news’. However, it was still estimated that the striker could be out for another four or five months – the same as Per Mertesacker.

The Telegraph are reporting that the ex-Manchester United star could return to action by Christmas. Considering this is four months away as Wenger previously stated, this isn’t exactly massive news but it’s a positive sign that his healing process is going well and the amount of injury ‘blows’ Arsenal get make this little ‘boost’, if true, quite nice.

Wenger claims that Welbz will be back in the new year, a little after when the Telegraph are reporting.

“The good news is that they had to go in and check how [his knee] is healing, and if the inflammation is healing,” Wenger said.

“It is healing even better than expected so we think he will be back in the New Year.

“It could’ve been April, so we gained two or three months on the last medical check.

“It gives him a lift because it motivates him to accelerate the process a little bit because when you don’t know what is going on inside the knee, you are a bit uncertain. Now he knows, he can go and work hard, so that is very good news.”

Arsenal are reportedly in the hunt for a new striker this transfer window but having Welbeck out through injury isn’t – or at least shouldn’t be – anything to do with that. We still need someone, regardless of whether the 25-year-old is returning next week or next year.

Saying that, we hope Danny’s recovery is going as well as is being reported!
