Arsenal are rumoured to have turned down a loan move for Kieran Gibbs to West Ham.

A report that originated in the Standard Sport on Monday claims that the Hammers made a move to bring the left-back to east London on loan but we’ve rebuffed their advances. Whether this means we’ve got actual plans for him or not, I’m not so sure.

Nacho Monreal does need back-up but we’re in the fortunate position to have a few versatile defenders who can play across the back four. Plus, Gibbs’ injury problems mean that we hardly get any use out of him anyway. Last season, he only featured 15 times in the Premier League and he only played 90 minutes once (Spurs away).

Personally, if the report is true, I doubt we turned down a loan move for Gibbs full-stop, just perhaps the terms being proposed. For example, we may want West Ham to pay his full wages and they only offered to pay half. This is where negotiations come into play.

Saying this, I could be completely wrong and he could be staying put.
