Arsenal have reportedly bid €16m for Torino’s Bruno Peres as they look to bring in defensive reinforcements before the window shuts.

Although Arsenal are primarily looking for a striker and a centre back, there’s no denying a need for a right-back should Mathieu Debuchy leave, which is very likely.

Peres can not only play in that position but also in left or right midfield – a versatility that Wenger loves in his players as it allows them to interchange on the pitch and bring an extra dimension of fluidity to the side.

The report appeared on the site Toro news, a site dedicated to, well, Torino news. Of course, that doesn’t mean it is reliable, but it does mean the rumour is likely to spread quickly.

They claim that Arsenal’s bid is less than City offered a while ago for the player and believe that Peres is not showing the same enthusiasm while wearing a Torino shirt as has characterised his time at the club he joined in 2014. A sign that he wants to leave? Perhaps. Or perhaps he has something going on in his personal life, it’s impossible to tell.

The 26-year-old is under contract with the Italians until 2020 and has a market value of around £11m.

He made 34 appearances in Serie A last season and has six goals and 12 assists in 65 league appearances since joining from Santos.
