According to Bild, Arsenal have opened talks with Serge Gnabry over extending his contract ahead of it expiring next summer.

Gnabry has been one of the standout stars at the Olympics, scoring five goals in their first three games, with a brace coming in two.

Serge was sent out on loan last season but Tony Pulis demonstrated he doesn’t actually know what to do with a good footballer and he returned to Arsenal, only to vanish there too.

What has to be remembered is that Gnabry suffered a serious knee injury that kept him sidelined for over year. As we’ve seen with more senior players, that sort of thing can take a long time to come back from, but it’s no surprise to hear that Arsenal have opened talks.

Usually the club open talks when a player has two years left on his deal but in this case they no doubt wanted to see how he recovered from that injury before deciding if they wanted to renew,

His talent has never been in doubt and hopefully he can really step up this season, either with the seniors or out on loan which seems more likely.

Bild also claim that Hertha BSC are interested in signing him permanently with the German site thinking €2m would be an adequate price for Gnabry as long as he doesn’t agree an extension with Arsenal.

Dream on.
