Arsenal Ladies beat Notts County Ladies 2-0 on Sunday in order to keep the pressure on second-place Chelsea in the FA Women’s Super League.

The game didn’t really kick off until the second half when Asisat Oshoala rounded Notts County goalkeeper, Megan Walsh, and slotted home Arsenal’s first goal.

The Gunners were reduced to 10 when Emma Byrne brought down Ellen White (ex-Arsenal). However, just eight minutes later, in the 70th minute, Walsh lost her balance during a corner from Danielle van de Donk and the ball dropped over the line.

Although it wasn’t the most pretty 2-0 victory, it was three points none the less, which keeps Arsenal firmly breathing down the necks of Chelsea Ladies who are just two points ahead in second place. Although the Blues do have a game in hand, all the Gunners can do is win what’s in front of them.

Arsenal also showed great character to win despite being reduced to 10 women with a third of the game still to go. Not only did they grind out the three points but they even scored after Byrne’s dismissal, which takes some doing.

Nice one, Ladies.
