Mauricio Pochettino has admitted that Arsenal’s win and Spurs fluffing second place last season put him in a bad mood for his entire summer holiday.

The Spurs manager admitted that, despite sunning himself with his family in Barcelona and the Bahamas (presumably not at once), he couldn’t get that shocking final day 5-1 defeat to the newly relegated Newcastle out of his head.

“The feeling after Newcastle was horrible,” the Argentine admitted to the Sun.

“It wasn’t good.

“It is true after a couple of months you move on, but that defeat put me in a bad mood for the whole of the summer. It killed my holidays. Seriously.

“I went to Barcelona and the Bahamas with my family, but all the time I was in a bad mood.

“And if that was not bad enough, in seven days in the Bahamas we had storms for six of them!”

The result left Spurs fans in despair as most Gooners cackled manically, mainly because no one could have predicted such a result given the Magpies’ previous displays. Spurs had been irritatingly solid for almost the entire season and while we suspected we could probably scrape a win against Aston Villa, we never expected to come second ahead of our rivals.

As far as rival managers go, Pochettino is actually very likeable but underestimate him at your peril. I’m sure next season he won’t make the same mistake twice.
