Over the weekend both Arsenal and Liverpool were linked with a move for Nottingham Forest’s 19-year-old right winger, Oliver Burke.

Already a senior Scotland international, a few Forest fans believe that £10m is more than a bargain for a player who is attracting attention from a number of Premier League clubs.

The report appeared in the Mirror who claimed that Arsenal and Liverpool have sent scouts a number of times to watch him strut his stuff and if they have, they would have seen him score three goals in four league games this season already (two v Wigan, 1 v Burton Albion).

The Mirror claim he has only two years left on his contract while the Express say that he signed a new four-and-a-half year deal in February which would take him through to 2020.

Trying to work out which one it was, I found that he signed a new deal in July, 2015 but this was followed by a new four-and-a-half year deal in February, as reported by the PFA.

It appears as if the Mirror got their information from TransferMarkt which lists his contract expiry as 2018, which is incorrect. It really does seem beyond many journalists in the tabloids to even use Google these days to see if what they are writing is even factually correct.

Anyway…it’s unclear where the Mirror got the rest of their information from so at this point it’s hard to call this one way or the other. I can’t say I’ve seen much of Burke, but if he’s as good as Forest fans seem to think he is, then it would be completely understandable that Arsenal (and Liverpool for that matter) would be interested in him.
