Over the weekend, Arsenal Ladies lost 2-1 to Liverpool, leaving them six points adrift of League leaders, Manchester City.

Goals from former Gunner, Caroline Weir, and Shanice Van de Sanden meant that Arsenal’s deflection was cancelled out and they now face an uphill struggle if they’re going to have any hope of winning the FA WSL.

Speaking after the match, right-back Alex Scott admitted that it was a tough defeat to take, given the nature of the Liverpool goals, and that Arsenal should have done better.

“It’s disappointing to lose our unbeaten run because we’ve been working so hard,” she said to the Islington Gazette.

“I think we played really well in patches but we got undone by a set-piece.

“We know Caroline’s quality in that area so it’s a hard one to take, especially after our second half performance where we went for the game and we had chances.

“At this level it’s about being clinical and finishing off our chances.

“Now we need to get our heads up, pick ourselves up and go again – we’ve got another game on Friday.

“We’re still in another competition, there’s still silverware to be won and that’s the attitude we’ll need to pick these players up.”

As ever, all the Gunners can do is pick themselves up again and move on. However, this loss could be disastrous for their season.
