Wojciech Szczesny has spoken about the rumours that Arsene Wenger could be offered the England job and revealed that, for the sake of Arsenal, he wants the boss to stay put.

The Polish goalkeeper, who missed out on his country’s last couple of matches due to a thigh injury he picked up against Northern Ireland, may have given further indication that he could be returning to London next season.

In a recent interview with the Evening Standard, he revealed that he doesn’t want Wenger to take the England job because his main interest is Arsenal and he believes we’re better off with Le Professeur in charge.

“I am sure he would be a great thing for England, but my main interest is Arsenal and I hope it doesn’t happen, for the sake of Arsenal, not for the sake of England,” the 26-year-old said.

“England had a disappointing Euro 2016 and changes will be made but, hopefully, that will not affect our club.

“I hope it is something that will not happen because he is doing a fantastic job at Arsenal and I would love to see him stay.”

This could, of course, just be an off-hand comment but with rumours that talks with Roma over another deal, loan or otherwise, have stalled, it’s looking more and more likely that our man Woj will be back in north London very soon.
