According to reports, Arsenal are set to launch a huge bid of £43m for Wolfsburg’s Julian Draxler.

The Sun claims that Arsene Wenger is ready to swipe the Germany, who has also been linked with a move to Manchester United, after being a long-time fan of his.

The 22-year-old scored five Bundesliga goals in 21 appearances last season and assisted six, which isn’t bad going considering he didn’t tend to get many full matches. He picked up an injury toward to end of the season in April and didn’t return until May, which explains why he missed out on quite a few games.

Although he’s been looking bright for Germany during the Euros, at the moment, our priority is getting a striker and word is that we’re going to trigger Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette’s release clause. This will set us back £34.2m. We’ve already paid £25m (plus add-ons) for Granit Xhaka and will also most likely get another left-back (probably Ricardo Rodriguez) – would we really then go out and spend £43m on an attacking midfielder as well?

I’m not saying it won’t ever happen. Wenger is clearly a fan and has been for a long time, but not right now. Not this summer.

But hey, I’m willing to be proved wrong!
