Despite beating the MLS All-Stars 2-1, Arsene Wenger admitted that it was a tough victory due to Arsenal’s difficult training regime.

A penalty from Joel Campbell and winner courtesy of Chuba Akpom cancelled out Didier Drogba’s goal before half-time. Although it was only a pre-season friendly, there were numerous former superstars on the MLS side and it was a good show from us overall.

“I believe it was tough for us,” the boss said post-match.

“We are in a very hard training programme at the moment. You never know how tired the players are going to be in the game. So it was good to see we are in good shape. We had two hard days in the training sessions before we played today so we did well.”

As a Gooner, I’m automatically worried about our players training too hard and picking up injuries, completely ignoring the fact that Wenger and his team are all professionals who know what they’re doing.

It was good to see Akpom on the score sheet – he appears to be part of Wenger’s plans for next season so getting a strong pre-season under his belt is crucial.

On the other hand, several of our senior players weren’t quite up to scratch, which is concerning.
