While not ruling out the England job in the future, Arsene Wenger has admitted that he was on his knees when England were knocked out of the Euros by Iceland.

Speculation surrounding the manager’s future at Arsenal has been rife since Roy Hodgson resigned as England boss and Le Professeur’s odds to take over were shortened to 28/1. Since then, he’s been quizzed about whether he would take the job at every given opportunity. Of course, Wenger being Wenger, he would never rule anything out but he’s very much focussed on Arsenal until his contract runs out in 2017.

“Could I manage England, why not?” he said.

“I would never rule that out, but I am happy and focused in club football.”

What’s more surprising, however, is Wenger’s anguish over England being knocked out of the Euros because of a 2-1 loss to Iceland.

“England is my second country. I was absolutely on my knees when England went out against Iceland.”

I can’t imagine Wenger being than emotional about anything that he would drop to his knees but at least it shows passion for the country where he’s spent a lot of his career. I’d be more surprised if he didn’t see England as his second country!
