Arsene Wenger has admitted he was wrong when he once predicted that transfer fees would not go as high as £100m and now says they will eventually break past £200m and £300m.

Known for being frugal and trying to find value for money where possible, the Arsenal manager was asked about the fee Manchester United look set to spend to bring Paul Pogba back to the club.

“If Manchester United can afford it, is justified, otherwise is a complete madness,” Wenger said at a press conference in the States.

“It is [complete madness] regardless, if you compare it with normal life, that’s for sure.

“I do not know if Pogba manages to justify spending like that, but since I’ve been in this sport I have always thought that some figures would not be exceeded, and instead I was wrong.

“In a few years it will come to also spend 200, 300 million.”

Many fans and people in the media expect Arsenal to break their transfer record this summer as they do everything they can to sign a big-name striker.

Whether they manage to do it or not still remains to be seen.
