With Arsene Wenger being linked to the England job, various players, current and former, have come out in support (or not) of the boss taking up the role.

While Wojciech Szczesny spoke recently about wanting Le Professeur to stay in north London because it would be better for Arsenal, Ray Parlour reckons he’d be a ‘great coup’ for the England football team.

“If they can get him, if they can persuade him to take the job, he would be a top manager to have,” said Parlour.

“He knows his football, he knows the Premier League, he knows the English players.

“It would be a great coup for the FA if they can get someone like Wenger but I just think the pull of club football is too strong for him.”

As Ray says, I reckon the boss is too used to the high tempo, club football calendar. Not working for months at a time would probably start to drive him crazy. As stressful as managing Arsenal is, he loves the club and, at times, I feel he enjoys the pressure on his shoulders.

Could Wenger do a job for England? I don’t know. While there’s no disputing the fact that he’s one of the best managers in the world, could his style benefit the England players? I’m sure we’ll never know.
