Well, it was a nice dream while it lasted but (former) Arsenal target, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, has agreed to join Manchester United instead.

The Red Devils put in a bid that Borussia Dortmund couldn’t refuse, considering he would be available for free when his contract ran out next season.

The Bundesliga team took the chance to have a bit of a dig at the attacking midfielder‘s new club, correctly pointing out the fact that they finished fifth in the Premier League last season. They also wished him luck in the Europa League (lol).

“This transfer was for us on the basis of an entirely new starting situation a difficult balancing advance: Manchester has made us a tremendous value containing offer. Had we knocked it, the player would be 2017 changed free. And we have the personnel issue postponed by only one year,” Hans-Joachim Watzke (CEO) told Dortmund’s official site.

For a while, it really did look as if we were going to get the Armenian and, in all honesty, I’m more than a little disappointed that we didn’t, considering his form. However, there’s no point dwelling on what could have happened. I can only assume that Miki really wanted to join United and we turned our attention elsewhere.
