It was one in, one out for Liverpool after they faced Huddersfield Town in a pre-season clash on Wednesday.

Although Joel Matip (ankle), Mamadou Sakho (Achilles) and Joe Gomez (Achilles) were still missing for the pre-season clash against the Championship team, Marko Grujic was back in the starting XI after recovering from his illness.

However, there was fresh concern as they lost one of their main men in the first half.

The Reds won 2-0 but lost Lucas Leiva in the process. The midfielder pulled up after just half an hour with what appeared to be a hamstring injury.

Jurgen Klopp is still waiting for further news on the extend of it.

“No not exactly, but of course it’s muscle so we have to wait,” he said.

“But things like this happen – that’s how it is. It’s always unlucky and never in the right moment, but we have to wait for the exact assessment.”

Hamstring injuries are notoriously tedious to heal and, depending on the severity, could have Lucas out for months. Even if the hamstring injury is only Grade 1, he will still have to abstain from any sport for at least three weeks, which means he’ll almost certainly miss the season opener against Arsenal.
