Jens Lehmann has issued a warning to new signing Granit Xhaka.

The former goalkeeper recently pointed out that Xhaka is not the fastest player and the Premier League is very intense. Although, as Lehmann says, the pace of the Bundesliga is quite similar to the English League, the Switzerland international can’t afford to take his foot off the gas.

“Xhaka is a great player,” Lehmann said to Blick.

“It is located in the first half year, as every new player in England, to get used to the game. The pace is fast and the physical stress extreme. Xhaka is already physically strong, but he is not the fastest.

“Xhaka will have it easier [than Gökhan Inler]. Unlike Italy, the pace is already high in the Bundesliga. He will have a problem if it thinks another number.

“Many players say: Great, now I’m where at Arsenal or United -Manchester or otherwise. Then they sit back a little first. If the Xhaka makes, it can equally go back.”

Lehmann went on to warn Xhaka not to sit back too much. Although he will need an adjustment period in order to get used to a new team and style of football, if he decides to sit back, certain teams will leave him looking like a deer caught in the headlights.

Although Xhaka is confident, I’m sure he won’t take this new challenge for granted. He’ll already be meeting his teammates and preparing for the season ahead, long before he sets foot on the pitch at the Emirates.
