Just when we thought the Gonzalo Higuain rumour was dead and buried, there’s been another twist…sort of.

After Napoli and Juventus came to blows over Higuain’s asking price – Napoli wouldn’t budge on €94m and Juve were unwilling to meet that amount – Arsenal kind of faded into the background again as talk turned to Mauro Icardi.

Now Icardi has confirmed he’ll be staying at Inter Milan, talk has turned back to old Higsy* and the fact that Napoli’s president, Aurelio De Laurentiis, said to Gazzetta dello Sport regarding paying for a replacement if…

“Higuain would go away, you know, to Arsenal, or to some other club.”

The outlet is taking this as a hint that he could be leaving and north London is his destination, since he’s made his feelings on the striker joining rivals Juve very clear. It’s a reach and, at this point, my heart can’t take me clutching at these flimsy straws for much longer.

But wait, there’s more. Though, not really.

Calcio Mercato are claiming that Higuain could miss training with the team on July 25th because he’s ‘not keen’ on turning up. Presumably because he wants a move, not just because he can’t be bothered…

Meanwhile, all the ‘ITK’s on Twitter had a field day contradicting each other.

Once again, we’re living via coulds, mights and maybes.

It won’t happen.

*Although if it does, I take credit for ‘Higsy’
