Arsenal have agreed a deal in principle of Japanese forward, Takuma Asano.

Reports emerged at the end of June that we were interested in bringing the 21-year-old to north London and, as we pointed out, since no one really knew who he was and there were quotes from the player confirming an offer, it was probably true.

Lo and behold, Arsenal have announced that we’ve all but signed Asano from Japanese club, Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

As Arsene Wenger points out, he’s a signing for the future. So hold your horses before you start assuming that this is our answer to our goal ‘issues’ from last season.

“Takuma is a talented young striker and very much one for the future,” the boss said to Arsenal’s website.

“He has had an impressive start to his career in Japan and we look forward to him developing over the next couple of years.”

Update: Asano confirmed the signing later on via his Twitter account.
