After Wales’ superb Euro 2016 performances, which allowed them to progress comfortably to the semi-finals where they were knocked out by eventual tournament winners Portugal, their FIFA ranking has sky-rocketed.

Wales up moved up 15 places to 11th in the world and you can’t help but think Aaron Ramsey had a huge part in this.

The midfielder, who now has 44 caps for his country, was on fire during the tournament. He scored a goal, assisted four and won Man of the Match in Wales’ 3-0 win over Russia. He was absolutely brilliant and although Gareth Bale was also decent, when Ramsey was left out of the squad against Portugal because he picked up a second yellow in five matches against Belgium, the team fell apart. The midfield went missing and their rhythm completely broke down.

The 25-year-old is hugely important for Wales and although he didn’t single-handedly boost them to 11th in the world rankings by himself, he definitely gave them a leg-up.

Arsenal need to do everything we can to keep hold of him.
