Granit Xhaka, and his brother Taulant, have revealed that they still give a whopping 80% of their wages to their parents.

In an interview with RedaktionsNetzwerk Deutschland, the brothers, who face each other today (Saturday) in the second game of the Euros, talked about the special relationship they have with their parents and explained “Because we owe our parents everything, we want to give them something back today. And we give, each month our income from [football], of course we have a separate account, but 80 percent of our income we send home.”

The reason, the brothers explain, is simple – family is their ‘greatest luxury’.

“We are young, we are naive with money, money can go fast again.

“If anyone thinks he is something better, just because he has more money in his account… then he can very quickly fall on his face. The family is our greatest luxury.”

It is a quite astonishing revelation in this modern era of football which sees the likes of Theo Walcott play well once every two years in order to boost his bank balance and money held as more important than anything else despite the majority of players having more than they could ever spend.

Granit continued, “If I was not a footballer, I would now be working in an office …money is just paper for me.

“If you cannot handle it well, you end up 35 and under a bridge.

“I’m not a fan of cars, I do not need these swank machines.”

Pure class.

And about facing his brother in the game between Albania and Switzerland, well, for “90 minutes I do not know my brother, then I’ll take him in my arms, either way.”

I think he’s going to fit in at the club just fine.
