Arsene Wenger has admitted that although Paul Pogba isn’t currently meeting expectations with the France national team, his time will come.

From what I’ve read, no one is exactly unimpressed with the Juventus midfielder. In fact, all I’ve seen if praise. However, the 23-year-old is yet to score or assist in any of France’s three Euro matches so far.

As Wenger has pointed out though, these things will come with time.

“He’ll be the player that we expect at 26,” Wenger said.

“That he’s not bringing everything that we expect of him, it’s normal at that age. I don’t know any player who carried the French team at 23 years of age. None.

“Now that he’s going through a maturing period, we start to cast doubt on him. It’s the mental test in the career of a top player.

“Either he’ll lose the aura that he had or else he’s going to show that he’s the player that we were waiting for and he’s going to develop further. It’s the normal phase for a very good player on the path to becoming a great player.”

When Pogba was at Manchester United, he was labeled as the next big thing. However, his attitude was reportedly too much for even Sir Alex Ferguson to put up with and he was shipped of to Italy, with Fergie feeling pretty pleased that he’d dodged a bullet.

Since joining Serie A in 2012, however, Pogba has progressed and become one a hot commodity in Europe. Last season, he scored 10, assisted 16 and was a key first team player for Juventus.

Arsenal have been linked with him once or twice, and Wenger has always been a fan, but his attitude would be a huge stumbling block for a manager who values ‘balance’ in the dressing room and on the pitch.
