Wojciech Szczesny played for Poland against the Netherlands on Wednesday night; his national team lost 2-1 but was the goalkeeper at fault?

For the Netherlands’ opening goal, the usually confident Pole in goal hesitated and failed to come out to claim what appeared to be a straight-forward cross from the Netherlands’ Steven Berghuis. However, his uncharacteristic backing off meant that Vincent Janssen headed the perfectly-weighted assist into the net, putting the Dutch ahead.

Although Poland did equalise through Artur Jędrzejczyk in the 60th minute, the opening goal proved too damaging and all it took was one more from Newcastle’s Georginio Wijnaldum to allow the Dutch to walk away with the win.
