Euro recap

Granit Xhaka

Granit Xhaka won the hearts of Gooners everywhere with his display against his brother’s Albania.

Hyperbole was certainly not in short supply and even the BBC were singing his praises which means he’s sure to get a decent welcome from the press here for a few months at least.

How a player is first talked about in the press when he lands in England often dictates how he is perceived for the rest of his career. Don’t believe me? Ask Olivier Giroud.

Aaron Ramsey

Aaron Ramsey and his hair helped Wales win their first Euro game against Slovakia . It was a tight match but perhaps should not have been had Martin Skrtel seen red for the most deliberate elbow you’ve seen since Alan Shearer retired.

The Father of Dragons grabbed the assist for the winner.

Jack Wilshere

After annoying half of England by picking Wilshere, who hardly played all season, over Danny Drinkwater, who most certainly did, Roy Hodgson backed up his decision by benching Jack for the first game against Russia.

Bringing him on for the final 13 minutes when England were one up, he could have helped make it two if Harry Kane hadn’t been offside. We’ll ignore that they ended up conceding after his introduction. Move along.

Gossip recap

Jamie Vardy

Jamie Vardy was alongside Wilshere on the England bench but unlike Jack, he got zero minutes.

His wife has also been speaking about his future. We work out how that fits into the nonsense we’ve had to listen to for the past week and just what really is going on here.

Ricardo Rodriguez

The Swiss left-back is available this summer but due to Wolfsburg’s accounting system and his release clause, things might get a bit messier than anyone would like. Still, he seems to fancy a move to The Arsenal, mostly to be with his BFF.

Nonsense recap

Per Mertesacker, rather than playing in the Euros because he’s retired, was showing off his big sausage and generally acting like a loon for an ad. How can you not love this man?

If you think last year might have finally taught Tottenham players a lesson about predicting that ‘this will be their year’ then you’d be wrong. Very, very wrong. They’ve went early this season. Impressive.
