Arsenal have been heavily linked with a move for Wolfsburg’s left-back, Ricardo Rodriguez and things might be a lot more complicated than a normal transfer.

With the player recently speaking about a move to Arsenal, and being able to share a room with his best buddy, Granit Xhaka, it seems as if this transfer could well be something for us to keep our eye on.

But if anything does happen, he wouldn’t be signed until after July 1st because of the way the German side’s accounting year works.

It finishes on June 30th and they are set to post profits of €70m after tax.

Speaking about the earnings, sporting director Klaus Allofs, who has already admitted Rodriguez is likely to leave, said “We have made a killing, economically [it] worked very well.”

With the new fiscal year starting for them on July 1st, they want any profits from sales this summer to be included in the new accounts.

When Arsenal were first linked with Rodriguez, it was claimed that his release clause of €26m was only available until 30th June which seems like a bit of catch-22.

I guess Wolfsburg could accept an offer before the end of June but not complete the deal until July. That would, theoretically, allow them to both honour the clause and include it in their new accounts.

Then again, it could all just get very messy indeed.
