After activating Jamie Vardy’s release clause, the Express are claiming that Arsenal have agreed terms with Hoffenheim’s Antonio Colak.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan in the second tier of German football with FC Kaiserslautern where he scored seven goals in 25 appearances (and two assists) – hardly stats to get Arsenal fans wetting themselves with excitement.

Of course, it’s not just a main striker Arsene Wenger could be looking to recruit. He has a few lesser-lights that he might like to replace as well.

Yaya Sanogo springs instantly to mind but Joel Campbell must also be considered because no matter how well he did when given a chance last season (and it’s safe to say he impressed many) Wenger just doesn’t seem to trust him.

“Antonio is a player who brings just the right mentality,” FC Kaiserautern sporting director, Markus Schupp said back in April.

“He’s a strong-minded player, with a very professional attitude who works a lot on the field for the team and covers large distances.

“He is direct and also strong in the air and has a quality eye for goal.”

The Express get their info from the site, Soccerisma, who ran it as an EXCLUSIVE and claim that Arsenal need a ‘proven striker’ but are looking at Colak, as we mentioned, as a young backup that they can develop.

With just one year left on his contract with his parent club, it’s not yet clear if they will be willing to sell what is seen as a rising star but if they can’t get him to sign a new deal that’s exactly what they will have to do or else risk losing him on a free.

Colak arrived at Hoffenhein six years ago but has yet to make a single appearance for them, spending all his time out on loan with four different clubs.

He has dual nationality with Croatia and Germany and might be one for all you men-fanciers out there as well:
