Porto are set to sign Samuel Chukwueze who was expected to join Arsenal alongside his u17 teammate, Kelechi Nwakali.

Both players were at the club in January and Arsenal submitted offers for the pair. However, their club, Diamond Academy, despite knowing the player wanted to move to Arsenal, would not accept the bid (despite initially appearing to do so) as they looked around for better offers to the exasperation of Arsenal who, we are told, eventually decided to walk away from the deal.

Arsenal still managed to land Kelechi, but it seems like his friend will be off to Portugal.

Speaking to AllNigeriaSoccer.com, the President of Diamond Academy, Martin Apugo, said “Chukwueze is going to FC Porto not Monaco.

“They are waiting for him to sign the papers but he couldn’t travel because he is with the Flying Eagles.

“We don’t know the length of contract he will sign until we get to Portugal. ”

Last week we reported how the player had agreed wages of £7kpw and had even passed his Arsenal medical only for the deal to collapse as we described above.

Speaking before the deal fell apart, Apugo had said “Chukwueze is still joining Arsenal, he will travel any moment from now to start training with them.

“I didn’t want him to go to Arsenal, wanted him to go somewhere else but he said he’ll be happy if he goes to Arsenal.”

Arsenal had wanted to sign both in January but due to their nursery club, only one deal will now be completed and that is expected to be announced formally very soon.
