Manchester City announced the signing of Borussia Dortmund’s Ilkay Gundogan on Thursday but the way in which they chose to do so on social media was a little… familiar.

When the signing of Granit Xhaka was finally announced by Arsenal, our (presumably) new social media person did it in humourous fashion. Given that most of us had already seen the pictures of him wearing his new, shiny red kit during his first photoshoot with us, we knew he’d signed. So when the club finally announced it, this was what they said:

While the tweet was a relief because everyone was beginning to wonder if we’d somehow managed to mess the deal up even after we’d got him in north London and wearing an Arsenal kit because… well we’re Arsenal… it was also refreshing to see our official social media person projecting a bit of personality into their post.

Now, weeks later, City have done more or less the same thing with their newest announcement.

With all the money they have, can’t they afford to hire someone who can at least compose original tweets?
