Laurent Koscielny believes that some new players at Arsenal next season will allow the club to reach another level as they look to go one step further in the league than they did last season.

The Arsenal man, who is the favourite to be the new captain after Mikel Arteta left, was speaking to the media while on international duty [he also spoke about Jamie Vardy].

“It’s a disappointment, we finished second, but if you look at the whole season, we can have regrets,” Kos said.

“I think this year we had the means to compete with the other teams to win this title. But our results were inconsistent, especially in February and March when we won very few games and we took very few points.

“In England, as soon as you miss opportunities to get back to your opponents it’s hard to close the gap.

“Some injuries hurt us for the whole season, like Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin and Danny Welbeck [not Jack?]. It was tough, but we have to take the positives from this season and learn from it, make a good start next season, probably with some new players that will allow us to reach another level and have more consistent results.”

Arsenal, at present, are still in the hunt for Jamie Vardy, are said to be close to a deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan and also rumoured to have lodged a £27.5m bid for Riyad Mahrez.

With Wenger saying he’d be looking to sign three players, and Granit Xhaka already in the bag, it looks like it could be a productive summer for Arsenal.

Presuming they don’t Arsenal it up, of course.
