If you happened to turn your phone off after work on Friday afternoon and only turned it back on today you probably wondered what the hell happened.

To be honest, even those of us who were online and following developments as they happened from late on Friday evening are still trying to work that out, so you’re not alone.

It all kicked off when a Guardian journalist tweeted that Arsenal had activated Vardy’s £20m release clause, an option in his contract only available to clubs in the Champions League and not teams like Liverpool.

This was enough to start a frenzy that was already in full swing by the time David Ornstein got involved in the action. The Ornacle had spoken – this was really happening, no matter how much Gary Lineker wished it wasn’t.

On Saturday, Vardy’s wife tweeted about the abuse she was getting from Leicester fans because of the move, prompting many to realise this was all true. Then a load of papers and sites printed quotes from Claudio Ranieri in which he said ‘yes, it’s all true’ in regards to Arsenal activating the clause.

Reports started emerging that his medical would take place on Sunday with the club looking to tie up the deal before the Euros got under way. The Sun then reported that Vardy met with Wenger on Friday and it is thought that an announcement could be made as soon as today (Monday).

Of course, this is Arsenal, so we will probably get confirmation of the deal from Leicester long before we hear from Highbury House – that’s if it doesn’t all fall apart at the very end.

Finally, The Ornacle added late on Sunday evening:

And that’s about it. Mental, eh?
