After Germany’s 3-0 win over Slovakia in the Euros on Sunday, Ian Wright revealed that he would have loved to play alongside Mesut Ozil and that he believes the midfielder can be the best no.10 in the world.

The Arsenal legend, who has been a pundit for Euro 2016, acknowledged that the German playmaker, along with Mario Gomez and Thomas Muller, is an integral part of his country’s starting XI and strategy.

“You give him time and space…if he’s got someone to hit then he’s going to be able to find them,” Wright said.

“I’d love to have played with someone like him, with the quality that he’s got.

“I believe it’s going to come to Gomez especially, Muller coming in and feeding off of him to get that kid of service off of Ozil to link the play and I think that’s how they’re going to break Slovakia down.

“He can at times for me be the best player in the world in that No.10 position.”

Ozil was once again, brilliant for Germany in the win, which put them through to the quarter-finals. Although he did miss his penalty which, jokes aside, needs to be sorted as this is a reoccurring incident, it did nothing to affect the final outcome and apart from this, he ran the show.

Although I’m loathed to agree with Jose Mourinho (and I’m sure Wright is, too), Ozil’s former Real Madrid manager was one of the first people to claim that the 27-year-old is the best no. 10s in the world, and he was right.
