Ivan Gazidis comes across as a pretty mild-mannered man but apparently, when Arsenal are doing an Arsenal, he can get a little hot-headed.

The Gunners’ chairman admitted recently that he actually thumped a steel rail with anger when Joe Allen equalised at Anfield in the final minute, meaning the score ended 3-3 and we left with only a point.

In the grand scheme of things, that one point made little difference, since Leicester beat us to the title by 10 points. However, at the time, it was massively frustrating.

“We’re on a rollercoaster all season, we all are,” he said.

“I think I nearly broke my hand when Joe Allen equalised in the last minute at Anfield, thumping the steel bar in front of me.

“But we can’t afford to do that, what we have to do is get away from the emotional review of the game and get back to what really happened and data can help you do that, it can help you get back to the reality. Sometimes the emotion affects how you think.”

Although Gazidis went on to claim that we shouldn’t be letting these things get the better of us, it’s vaguely refreshing to read that he does have human emotions, since many of us were pretty skeptical.

The fans want a chairman who feels connected enough to the club that he almost breaks his hand with anger over an opposition equaliser. If the people in charge don’t care, what are the fans supporting?
