Mathieu Debuchy is – shockingly – set to return to Arsenal.

According to L’Equipe, the right-back, who spent the second half of the season on loan at Ligue 1’s Bordeaux has decided not to stay and is instead returning to north London.

The decision seems odd considering the Frenchman was so keen to get away from us but this was mainly down to wanting playing time. Now that he hasn’t made the Euro 2016 team due to injury, his purpose being there has gone. His whole objective was to be noticed and therefore picked for the squad, he hasn’t been, so why stay?

What will be interesting to see is how long he stays in north London. I’m sure he doesn’t fancy playing second fiddle to 21-year-old Hector Bellerin who has now been promoted to the Spain senior squad and will most likely only continue to excel. Will he leave? I would say it’s likely.
