Wojciech Szczesny will be heartbroken after being ruled out of Poland’s next Euro clash against Germany on Thursday.

The goalkeeper collided with Northern Ireland’s Kyle Lafferty during Poland’s 1-0 win and appeared to have picked up a thigh injury. However, he played on and, although he was said to be a doubt and missed the next training session, now, Poland coach, Adam Nawałka, has confirmed that the 26-year-old will miss out on the big match against the Germans.

“There’s no chance for Szczesny to play tomorrow,” he said.

“The team doctor has made the decision.

“We cannot properly tell how long Szczesny will be sidelined. Hopefully he will be ready for the match against Ukraine.”

Poland and Germany sit on level points in Group C, with Germany only ahead on goal difference by one. This match could be huge and Woj is bound to be gutted that he won’t be involved.

As a result, former Gunner and Swansea man, Lukasz Fabianski, or Bournemouth’s Artur Boruc could step in. Neither of which match up to Woj’s ability.

These things can’t be helped though and all we can do is offer the big man our best wishes.

Update: Woj appeared to be in good enough spirits, although very bruises up in his latest Instagram post.
