Arsenal have been linked again with a move for PSG’s Edinson Cavani in the wake of the Jamie Vardy transfer going a little quiet.
With nothing much else to write about (apart from the massive football tournament that’s going on at the minute) some journos turned back to their notebooks to see what rumours haven’t yet been done to death.
This is the one they seemed to have landed on.
We were just going to ignore them after digging in and finding nothing new had been added to a story that’s around a year old (at least) but as the rumours showed no sign of slowing, we thought we’d take a closer look.
Guess what we found? Nothing.
This story is circular reporting at its finest.
One journalist makes the claim and a thousand sites and papers quote that initial report as the truth, taking no time to even Google to see if there might be a whiff of fantasy about the whole thing.
The Express delivered an EXCLUSIVE on the story and with that word in the headline you would be forgiven for thinking they had something more than information that had already been published on countless other websites over the life of this transfer story.
They didn’t.
Their ‘exclusive’ ran exactly 5 hours 53 minutes after the Mirror had said exactly the same thing even though the Mirror cite the Express as their source. The Daily Star also covered it citing the Express as their source, as did a ton of others I’m too bored to list (just Google).
