Kalidou Koulibaly has, somewhat hilariously, been told off by Napoli.

Like a disappointed parent, the Serie A club have publicly expressed their anger over the recent comments that Kalidou Koulibaly made in the press. Basically, the centre-back insinutated that he wasn’t happy and could potentially move this summer.

Arsenal and Chelsea have both been linked with the 24-year-old and it seems as if the speculation, particularly surrounding the latter, was just too flattering for him to ignore.

However, Napoli president, Aurelio Di Laurentiis, has basically said that he’s raging at his player’s comments.

“The player has a further three years left on his contract and he will not move from here, I am so angry with him,” he said.

“He has surprised me because I thought he was a boy that was above the rest.”

He is also reported to have said, “Obviously he has not read well his contracts. I am not referring to those from the employee, but to the sale of image rights. For two days I get calls from companies with whom we negotiate for more activities that would also involved Koulibaly. Millions and millions of Euros of which will have to compensate me.”

Yikes.

Although the origin of the first quote is difficult to find and is being reported by a UK Football Gossip site with no source and may therefore be fabricated, the second concerning looking ‘millions and millions’ is from an interview with Italian publication, Corriere della Sera and can definitely be trusted.

For a club to be this publicly angry with a player doesn’t look good. Napoli aren’t some Sunday League team, they’re one of the biggest clubs in Europe and they’re clearly absolutely livid.

After this little outburst, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Koulibaly does end up leaving, purely because they could use the money now it seems!
