Gedion Zelalem missed out on a winner’s medal as Rangers lost the Scottish FA Cup Final on Saturday at Hampden Park despite leading 2-1 with just 11 minutes left in the game.

It was a lively match, played on a sunny Saturday afternoon, in front of a noisy full house.

Hibs took the lead through Celtic’s on-loan forward, Anthony Stokes, after just three minutes but Rangers only needed 24 minutes more to draw level.

Kenny Millar, found by a great looped ball from James Tavernier, nodded home to make sure the sides were level at the break.

Zelalem was withdrawn in the 62nd minute and just a few moments later Rangers took the lead through a screamer from Andy Halliday. They had scored two from just two on target.

With 11 minutes left on the clock, Stokes found the net again, this time a header from a corner while his manager, Alan Stubbs, was away to the toilet. True story.

From then, there was only going to be one winner and in injury time, Hibs’ David Gray rose highest to nod home an historic winner – the first time they’ve won the final since 1902, 114 years.

The defeat means Rangers could not end a seven year wait to get their hands on the trophy, though to be fair, they’ve been a little bit busy with more important issues – like clawing their way back up to the Scottish Premier League.

In truth, Zelalem had a quiet game, but getting the nod to start a final as important as this for his loan club will do his confidence the world of good.

The game was marred at the end when a pitch invasion saw fans fighting each other in disgraceful scenes that ruined what should have been a glorious cup final to remember.

Well done, Gedion!
