With contract talks pending and rumours circulating, Arsenal fans will be glad to hear that one of Chile’s favourite sons believes Alexis Sánchez is happy in north London.

Retired striker Ivan Zamorano was speaking to Omnisport and insisted the Arsenal forward looks happy again.

“I think that Alexis is recovering his happiness. He looks like a happy guy at Arsenal,” said the retired striker.

“Wenger has squeezed him and he has taken the best of Alexis. This is very important, because when he comes on the pitch motivated, he makes the difference.”

There have been rumours linking Alexis with a move to Juventus, PSG, or even Manchester City but, with two years left on his current deal, Arsenal are hoping to tie him down with a new contract before next season begins.

Murmurs surfaced in recent weeks that the 27-year-old is unsettled in London and dissatisfied with the club’s performance. However, for now, they appear to be nothing but speculatory.

Zamorano is a Chilean legend and was speaking soon after Alexis was named in the country’s squad for this summer’s Copa América.

After winning the competition for the first time last year, Chile will hope to defend their title in the USA and Alexis is central to their aims.

Though he endured difficult spells in the past season, Alexis still scored 17 times for the Gunners and Zamorano has backed his countryman to hit even bigger heights.

“He is the best Arsenal player and one of the best forwards in the Premier League. That means that he is working really well.

“He is still very young and I think that he still has to give a bonus to become the best player in the world.

“He is working on that daily. He is significant for Arsenal and for the national team.”
