Jack Wilshere is the only Arsenal player to make Roy Hodgson’s England squad for Euro 2016 this summer.

The midfielder started his first game of the entire season on Sunday as Arsenal beat Aston Villa 4-0, but he is seen as an integral part of the England midfield and Hodgson is willing to gamble on his fitness.

Wilshere hasn’t played for England since last June, when he scored twice against Slovenia to help the Three Lions to an important win.

It was his 28th cap for his country and he will hope to make it to 30 before this summer’s tournament even begins; last week the midfielder expressed his wish to feature in England’s three friendlies before they head to France.

Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck was expected to be named until his injury at Manchester City just over a week ago. Able to play up front or play out wide, he would’ve been a great player to have at a tournament.

Welbeck’s injury hasn’t opened the door for Theo Walcott, who could take a similar squad role but hasn’t done enough to force Roy Hodgson’s hand despite making the last international squad back in March.

Kieran Gibbs has also been left out, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s injury rules him out for the summer.

Frenchmen Laurent Koscielny and Olivier Giroud were named in their national squad last week.
