Starting an England game for the first time in nearly a year, Jack Wilshere came through 65 minutes on Sunday.

England went on to win 2-1 against Turkey at the Etihad Stadium and Hodgson would’ve been encouraged by Wilshere’s fitness, if not his performance.

The midfielder played in central midfield but didn’t see as much of the ball as he’d have liked though, obviously, that wasn’t the priority.

It was a third consecutive weekend of playing over an hour for Wilshere and a win to go with it against a decent side: not a bad start to England’s pre-Euro 2016 preparations.

“We have to be able to hang on to wins in a tournament, we did well today. I feel good, I’m 100%,” Wilshere said after the game. The midfielders made his first only start of the Premier League season a week ago but is considered crucial enough to make Hodgson’s squad anyway.

“I’ve been training for seven or eight weeks now. I am looking to improve with every game.”

That improvement has been steady so far but, with England playing two more friendlies before heading to France, there is still time for Wilshere to find his feet in the side and hit top form.

Hopefully, for Arsenal and England, he manages that before too long and manages to stay fit.
