The FA WSL transfer window will reopen from the 3rd – 30th of June. This transfer window is mainly used to make adjustments on the squads. Let’s have a look at what could happen for the Arsenal Ladies.

First we have to remember that the FA WSL Rules allow for the team to sign a maximum of 40 players overall in their squad for the first team and the development squad.

The numbers are as follows: first team, 22 players; development team, 17 players; on loan, three players. Arsenal have 42 players overall, hence the loan deals.

The first team squad is full of players with as many as four not making the matchday squad of 18. It would be a big surprise to see any signing for the first team unless one or two of the 22 players go on loan or leave the club.

The development squad is also very close to full capacity with 17 players out of a possible 18. The early indication is one player is moving to the USA to study at a University there, leaving a possible two places in the squad.

The big question is how many development team players will be retained and how many will be released, as many members of the double winning u17 team should step up to the development team. This is a question mainly for those who are currently in their second season with the development team. Most of them will be 20 soon and might be better off playing in the FA WSL 2 or in the FA WPL, rather than doing a third season in the FA WSL Development League.

So the 40 players rule means, it is really unlikely to see a new signing for the first team unless one top class player becomes available in the market. The likely movements and changes will happen in the Development squad and I would not be surprised to see three to five players leave the club and maybe a few to join up from the U17 team.
