Arsene Wenger hailed Jack Wilshere’s encouraging performance against Manchester City on Sunday.

The midfielder came on for Arsenal in the first half against City when Danny Welbeck limped off injured with a suspected knee problem. It was an intense came to bring Wilshere on in considering he’s been out all season and he was rusty, but, as the boss pointed out, there were encouraging signs.

“I felt that he showed he is well prepared physically,” Wenger said.

“Overall, I believe that his performance was encouraging and that he will benefit from this kind of intensity in the game. He didn’t have too much time to think about it, but that is sometimes the best. His performance was positive.”

Wilshere will already have one eye on the Euros, assuming he’ll get chosen if he manages not to pick up another injury between now and June. Therefore, he’ll be hoping for a start against the newly relegated Aston Villa in our last match of the season at the Emirates next weekend.

We’re still three points ahead of City, so if we can win, which we should, we’ll clinch third. On the other hand, we’re now two points behind Spurs so, if they decide to lose on the last day to Newcastle, we’ll somehow get second.
