Danny Welbeck came off the bench to score the only goal as Arsenal defeated Norwich at the Emirates in the Premier League on Saturday.

Latching onto Olivier Giroud’s knockdown to end a 20-pass-move by slamming the ball into the back of the net, many were wondering why he hadn’t started the game.

As we’ve mentioned on the site a few times, it’s down to injury management.

Welbeck returned after 11 months out and played a lot of minutes.

Speaking after the game he was exhausted after just 30 minutes. That has a lot to do with it.

As does making sure they don’t overload his knee and cause further problems.

Here’s what the forward had to say about it all.

Obviously it’s down to the manager. I just want to play every single game as players do.

“Obviously being out for such a long time, you’ve got to get back into match fitness, as you can tell I’m blowing and I was only playing 30 minutes!

“It’s something, I just want to keep playing games and building up my fitness.”

Obviously.
