Calum Chambers was part of the England u21 side that beat France 2-1 at the weekend to win the Toulon Tournament for the first time since before Calum was born.

The Young Lions had won all their group games to set up the showdown with their old enemy and goals from Lewis Baker in the eighth minute and Ruben Loftus-Cheek in the 38th ensured that Chambers and co. picked up the trophy. Despite a fightback from France, which saw them half the deficit with just 12 minutes remaining, England held on and then partied like they’d just won big on Double Bubble slotto.

Speaking after the game, manager Gareth Southgate said “I think we were the best team today and I think we were the best team in the tournament, but you then have to get over the line,” he said.

“When you have a situation like we have, you’ve got to make sure you take advantage of it and I thought the players were exceptional today, but also for the whole two weeks.

“Their mentality is a winning mentality.”
