Currently with Borussia Mönchengladbach during a post-season trip to Switzerland, Granit Xhaka has been speaking candidly about his future.

It’s no secret the midfielder is hoping to move this summer and that Arsenal are interested in signing him.

Sporting director Max Eberl has confirmed that Gladbach have received a bid and Xhaka openly spoke about his future with SRF on Tuesday.

  • “Is the Premier League a goal for you?”

“I wouldn’t say goal but a childhood dream that hopefully comes true at some point – not necessarily a goal.”

  • “How far are the negotiations (with Arsenal?)”

“I think I’m the wrong person to talk about that at the moment. As of now I’m still a Gladbach player. That might change in the coming weeks, or not.”

  • “But you can imagine (joining) Arsenal?”

“For sure.”

Well, there you have it. It’s pretty obvious the midfielder, who reiterated his future will be decided before Euro 2016 begins, is keen on a move to the Premier League and, more specifically, north London this summer.

For the time being, it feels as though things are moving along slowly as we wait for the German club to sign a replacement. After being linked with Sebastian Rode and Youri Tielemans in recent weeks, reports today suggest they could look to sign Werder Bremen’s Florian Grillitsch.

Let’s wait to see what happens next.

Thanks to @LaurinHDO for giving us a hand with the translation. German is one thing, Swiss accents are a whole different ball game.
