After a superb season at Birmingham City, Jon Toral is hoping to return to Arsenal in the summer to earn a place in the first team.

The Spaniard’s contract in north London is up but it is clear he wants to remain at the club, where there could be space for him.

Tomas Rosicky, Mathieu Flamini and Mikel Arteta are all set to leave, freeing up squad spaces in midfield. With eight Championship goals to his name, Toral won player of the season with the Blues.

No wonder he believes he can make it at the Emirates Stadium.

“Seeing players like Alex (Iwobi) and Hector (Bellerin), they have been given the chance and taken it. I look forward to what’s coming next,” said the 21-year-old.

“Arsenal have always been a team which has given young guys a chance and that was one of the reasons which made me go there when I was 16.”

After a year in the Championship, Toral clearly believes he has done enough to earn a chance under Arsène Wenger.

With the likes of Jack Wilshere, Aaron Ramsey and Mesut Özil all set to play at Euro 2016 this summer, Toral’s chance could come during pre-season before Arsenal’s most notable players are back.

“I think I’m ready but it’s not for me to decide, you need someone to give you the chance at that level and it’s up to Arsenal to decide if I’m ready or not.

“As a player, the next step is playing at the highest level and that’s the Premier League.”
